City Walking Challenge
We practice what we preach! We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again… walking regularly is one of the easiest ways to stay healthy! To encourage city staffers to get more steps in every day, the City’s Wellness Committee rolled out our first team Walking Challenge competition this the summer using Walker Tracker.
Twenty teams comprised of 72 people took up the challenge to go on a virtual journey by walking to the Seven Wonders of the Natural World. It ran from July 2nd to September 23rd. Teams were randomly selected and the team goal was to walk a minim of 8,000 steps per day to keep in line with our virtual pacer rabbit.
Here are some of our impressive results:
- As a City we walked a total of 52,679,088 steps
- As a City we burned approximately 2,370,559 calories
- As a City we lost 677 pounds
Are you feeling inspired? Start taking steps for a healthier tomorrow: Find a walking buddy and hit your favorite parks or trails. Challenge a coworker to a virtual walk-a-thon. If your phone can track steps, set a goal to increase your steps.
