Additional Information about McKenzie Park
The 63 acre McKenzie property is a mix of floodplain forest and farm fields adjacent to the Winooski River in the Burlington Intervale. Designated as an “Urban Wild” in accordance with the Conservation Legacy Program, the land provides habitat for species of rare plants and approximately 24 acres of floodplain forest which is a wetland that provides important wildlife habitat. The beach provides hunting areas for wildlife, habitat for a large number of insects and potential nesting habitat for turtles.
The property contains two trails – the Intervale bike path which passes through the agricultural fields, and a narrower walking path that winds through the forested portion of the property. This is an ecologically sensitive area, so please stay on paths.
