July is Parks and Recreation Month
Join hundreds of park and recreation agencies in celebrating National Park and Recreation Month with their communities.
We celebrate this month to honor history, to allocate the important message about the major impacts and value of parks and recreation, and to recognize the thousands of hardworking community members who have maintained our nation’s local and community parks over the years. This July marks the 31st year of Park and Recreation Month. July became the official month of celebration and endorsement in 1985, when the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) felt it was the ideal time period to accommodate various climates and school schedules.
There are many ways to celebrate – big and small.
This July, we’re celebrating the super heroes of parks and recreation. With their supernatural abilities, those people have provided significant positive change in the community ranging from environment improvements to providing equitable public spaces for all to enjoy. In honor of our local super heroes, we encourage YOU to discover your super powers at your local parks and recreation! Captain Community, the Green Guardian and the Fit Twins will help guide you on your future adventures during Park and Recreation Month.
