Leddy Park Public Workshop

The final reports are in!

Back in April we held a public workshop to seek input on the future of Leddy Park, with assistance from SE Group. The event gathered input from about 80-100 participants at the workshop, and an additional 25 people responded to the online survey. Below are highlights of three main topics we focused on. Below are link to view and download the final summary, that included NEXT STEPS, and the full detailed report.

Highlights of the successful public meeting

On April 9th, we hosted an open house style public workshop. We set up several stations geared towards sharing information,  getting feedback on proposed ideas and hearing what might be on people’s “wish list” for the park.

The stations included dot exercises, write in boards and maps. We also had a comment box for any ideas or suggestions that didn’t fit into the format. City staff and volunteers were present at all the stations to offer more details and have one-to-one conversations with the attendees.

Overall we thought it was a big success with over 75 people in attendance! It was a great opportunity for friends and neighbors to join the conversation about the park. We also provided some great snacks!

Here’s the results of the interactive posters:

We also had some posters to inform participants of upcoming plans at Leddy Park.

Those include:

  1. I would really like us to further explore having a disc golf course in Leddy Park. This sport is growing extremely quickly across the state and our biggest city deserves a course within its city limits. The sport is growing extremely quickly as a youth sport with courses being created at CVU, Williston Central School, and Vergennes High School to name a few. It would be ideal to offer the opportunity to students in Burlington. I am becoming heavily involved in the Vermont disc golf community and I would really like to expand the discussion around this. This could be done at an extremely low cost through hole sponsors and volunteer maintenance. I do not think your meeting provided an accurate sample on what a disc golf course in Leddy Park would do for the local community in the New North End. I can understand how someone unfamiliar with the sport may not know the positive impact it has on the community, but I would love to expand the conversation. Is there a forum/opportunity to do so?

  2. Hi Jason, we are actively exploring locations or other ways we can bring disc golf into our community. The Leddy location has a history of disc golf interest, but it has been found that the location is not suitable. As we hold more public meetings for our parks and open spaces, we encourage any individual or group that has suggestions on ways to program spaces for recreation, we welcome them to join!
