Activities

Baseball & Softball

There are 11 fields. Shifilliti Park boasts  3 named fields complete with seating and scoreboards and Leddy has 3 as well. Others can be found at Appletree ParkCalahan Park, Oakledge Park, Roosevelt Park & Smalley Park.

Basketball

The are twelve (and a half!) basketball courts spread throughout Burlington. It should be easy to find a pick-up game at any of these locations: Appletree Park, Baird ParkCalahan Park, Lakeside ParkLeddy ParkPomeroy ParkRoosevelt Park, Schmanska Park and Smalley Park.

Biking

In addition to our Bike Paths, Ethan Allen Park has 4 miles of bike-able trails

Boating

Lake Champlain as a long maritime history and our marinas at the Community Boathouse and Perkins Pier provide access for recreational sailing and motor boats. You can take a number of chartered cruises as well with one of our recommended partners.

Bocce

Come on over to Oakledge Park where there are two bocce ball courts available for public use. Bocce balls can be borrowed from the gatehouse attendant on a first come first serve basis or you can bring your own.

Camping

Seasonal camping is available at our North Beach Campground. It has spaces for RVs and tent with lots of amenities to make camping comfortable.

Dog Parks

Starr Farm Park

This facility is located just west of the bike path at Starr Farm Park.
It is open from April 1 to Sept. 30 from 8A to 8P and from Oct. 1 to March 31 from 8A to 6P or dark, whichever occurs first. Throughout the year on Sundays, the park opens at 11A and closes at 6P or dark, whichever occurs first. Volunteers are needed to help monitor the sites, remove trash and inform users of park rules. Please call 865-7247 to help with this effort.

Waterfront – Urban Reserve Off Leash Dog Site

This two-acre facility is located about 1,000 feet north of the Moran Building (old Burlington Electric Generating Station) and provides dogs access to Lake Champlain. It is a walk-in area only, with parking available at the north end of Waterfront Park or at North Beach. Dog owners must keep their pets leashed until they are within the fenced enclosure.

Dogs are allowed in other city parks but they must be leashed at all times. Dogs are prohibited from cemeteries, designated beaches and picnic areas. Owners are always responsible for cleaning up after their pets!

Fishing

Fishing is allowed from the Fishing Pier at Waterfront Park.

Gardening

Community gardens are bountiful in our park system. Find out more about any one of 14 in your neighborhood here.

Handball & Squash

There is an outdoor court at Leddy Park. One side is a an open squash court and the other is a handball wall.

Hiking

Several miles of light hiking trails can be discovered in our urban wilds at Arms Park, Ethan Allen and Leddy Park.

Ice Skating & Hockey (Outdoor)

Winter weather permitting, there will be unsupervised ice skating available during the winter months at Starr Farm Park, Roosevelt Park, Battery Park, Calahan Park and Lakeside Park. Come out to a park nearest to you for some good old fashion fun!

Ice Skating & Hockey (Indoor)

Gordon Paquette Arena at Leddy Park offers skating and hockey almost year-round. Learn more here.

Indoor Activities

Robert Miller Community Center offers a wide variety of indoor activities including yoga, walking, basketball, pickleball, kids fencing and more.

Paddling

Lake Champlain offers a wet world of possibilities for paddling fun whether you canoe, kayak or SUP. You can bring your own or rent one from our partners at North Beach and Leddy Beach! Learn more about the Lake Champlain Paddlers’ Trail from the Lake Champlain Committee.

Pickleball

What is pickleball anyway?!

It’s a fun and easy-to-play paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. It combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong and can be played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. Players use a special paddle and a plastic ball.

Playgrounds

The kids will never get bored with 26 swings and 17 playgrounds! Nearly every park has something fun for the little ones!

Soccer, Lacrosse & Football

Four fields are available for these team sports at Calahan Park,  Leddy Park, and Starr Farm Park.

Swimming

When the weather heats up, it’s great to cool off in the waters of Lake Champlain. Burlington Parks offer four unique swimming locations at Leddy Beach, North Beach and two locations at Oakledge – Blanchard Beach and Oakledge Cove. Each site is tested regularly throughout the summer months for water quality. Follow us on Twitter for useful info & updates.

Tennis

Burlington parks offer 18 tennis courts that are open to public. Stop by any of these locations for a match:  Appletree ParkCalahan ParkLeddy ParkOakledge ParkRoosevelt Park, or Schmanska Park. Courts remain open as long as weather permits. Tennis courts are utilized at Leddy, Calahan and Oakledge parks during the spring school year by Burlington schools. Call our office to check for availability.

Volleyball

Beach volleyball is available at Northbeach Park, and paved courts are at Roosevelt Park and Schmanska Park.
