The City of Burlington manages three cemeteries: Lakeview, Greenmount, and Elmwood.
Lakeview Cemetery is located at 455 North Avenue in the City's New North End. Lakeview Cemetery is an example of a Victorian Lawn Park Cemetery and was first opened to the public in 1872. It contains the Louisa Howard Chapel that was built in 1882 and was a gift to the City from Louisa Howard. The Chapel was built in high victorian gothic style architecture. It is available for rental for memorial services, weddings and other public gatherings. It was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
Greenmount Cemetery is located on the east side of Colchester Avenue, just north of University Road, which is the entrance to the University of Vermont's Centennial athletic field. This historic cemetery contains the final resting place for Ethan Allen and a number of his family members. Space is not available for any additional burials.
Elmwood Cemetery is located at the corner of Elmwood Avenue and North Street in the City's Old North End. Space is not available for any additional burials.
Please contact the Lakeview Cemetery office at (802) 863-2075 for further information or directions.
